Open Mind, Unformatted Vision and On-site Work

For the "Urban Sanitation 2004-2005" study, our formations have allowed us to understand the problems and challenges of urban sanitation in developing countries. Nevertheless, as we were not yet formatted by the policies and strategies commonly followed in sanitation, we wanted to take advantage of this situation in order to become aware in situ of the real problems and of the expectations of the local urban communities.

This is the main approach we have for our projects: keep an open mind and an objective point of view, and work in the field in order to implement suitable solutions to each situation.

An Important Regional Diversity

Because of their multiplicity and their regional diversity, the experiences met through our projects allow us to have a broad sight of the project types in urban sanitation. This field approach is completed by the documents gathered on-site or back home.

An Integrated Approach of Urban Sanitation

Due to the small interest in sanitation shown by the projects dealing with "water and sanitation" and due to the strong links between solid waste management and liquid sanitation, we have chosen to approach sanitation in an integrated way. This approach considers solid and liquid sanitation as a whole, from a health and hygienic point of view, which goal is to collect, move away, treat and dispose all health hazards that are: excreta, domestic waste water, domestic solid waste and rain water.
