Study Project on Urban Sanitation in 4 cities in Senegal (2005)

This study takes place in the cities of Guinguineo, Gossas, Fatick and Bambey in Senegal. In partnership with the municipalities, it aims at a 'diagnosis' of solid and liquid sanitation in this medium-sized cities (15,000 to 40,000 inhabitants), in order to get to relevant and suitable solution proposals that would meet with the needs of this cities (poor and essentially rural population, poor municipal means, important flooding during the wet season, etc.).

Study Project on Solid and Liquid Sanitation in 6 Major Cities in Developing Countries (2004-2005)

This study took place in two steps:

  • The first step took place on the field from February to December 2004. It concentrated on six cities (Delhi, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and Antananarivo). In each city, we have met relevant stakeholders of urban sanitation in poor districts in order to be aware of the local situation at all levels: institutions, universities, private companies and NGOs.
  • The second step of the project was a synthesis of the collected observations and the writing of the conclusions of this study through several papers (general report, technical files, etc.). This step took place from January to July 2005 in relation with the persons met during the field study.

This work was followed by Mrs Ta Thu Thuy, independent consultant and co-organizer of the recent « Drinking Water and Sanitation » and « Solid Waste and Sanitation » programs for pS-Eau (Water & Solidarity Programme - Paris, France). She has agreed to advise us during the whole project.

The results of this project are available on-line.
